Coming to college causes many students to be distanced from friends who used to live close by, but this does not mean they have to be disconnected from them. Opinion writer Elise St Clair shares tips to help students stay in touch with their long distance friends such as scheduling phone calls, keeping each other updated on their lives, asking for advice and making time for one another. St Clair notes that though it is achievable to continue friendships across large distances, individuals should not feel pressured to keep friends around solely because of their joint history, and should also take this time apart to meet new people and grow new relationships.

As the legislative session draws on, Nebraska lawmakers are eyeing a proposal to restrict transgender youth in 2024. The proposed bill, LB 575, named the “Sports and Spaces Act,” would designate sports teams, bathrooms and locker rooms as either male or female at K-12 public schools and require students to use or participate in either based on their assigned sex at birth. This proposal follows the passing of LB 574, known as the “Let Them Grow Act,” which restricted gender-affirming care for transgender youth back in June of 2023. It is encouraged that students with opinions on the issue should contact their senators, collaborate with political advocacy or LGBTQ+ support groups on campus and register to vote.

Levin is a testament to the fact that fitness is important at any age, and we should all take control of our personal health.
